PC110 No.7:"Take/Bamboo" immobilization, Checked

The "VGA23-TFT module" was installed and the experiment of the TFT display was performed. No.7:"Take/Bamboo" died.
... (to put it correctly) The OS stopped working, and the image was not displayed. (Fig_1)

Surely, when you cover the LCD case, the contact part of "Relay board" and the metal part of "VGA23-TFT module" will come into contact with each other, and the power supply I wondered if some parts were broken.
Immediately, I examined the voltage at each place. ... However, all were "conventional output voltage".

Once I removed this "VGA23-TFT module" and repeatedly turned the power on and off with the "external display" to see what was going on.
Then, rarely, "Easy Setup" or "PC-DOS" may be executed.
Most applications were executable when DOS was running.
However, they are only seen on "External Display".

After that, for checking of the "LCD display system", the "VGA23-TFT module" was reconnected to check the status.
As a result, it turned out that "LCD display system" is normal, but the image signal is not correctly sent from the main No..

... However, while turning the power on and off many times, suddenly, at one time, VGA23-TFT module appeared operation screen.
And the "drawing app" also worked ♪ (Fig_2 [click])
Oh, Yokkatta ! The display system wasn't broken anywhere !

... From these things, isn't some part of the failure just because it cannot pass "initial check" even if it is a failure ? I strongly doubted that.
Even if "PC110" immobilization junk, if I skip appropriately skip the BIOS initial check routine, (there are some functions that cannot be used. Probably, but) I think that I can bring it to an operating state that is close to normal.
Eventually, I would like to try that "skip barriers in BIOS".

−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−─

+++ Rare state (external display) +++

From a certain time, even when the power was turned on, nothing was displayed and only the cursor flashed.
Even so, I was turning the power on and off repeatedly in the hope of restoring nature.

Then, by chance, it may even proceed to DOS execution. (Fig_3)
Originally it was "Japanese mode", but for some reason, it was "English mode".
Or sometimes it comes out in "Japanese mode".

When the power is turned on by pressing the F1 key, it rarely enters "Easy Setup mode". (Fig_4 [click])
What is very interesting is that there are no abnormalities anywhere.
(For FDD, I have already connected the "defective product", so I know the reason why the error occurred.)

+++ Rare state (VGA23-TFT module) +++

If I could see the screen on the "external display", I want to see the normal screen on "VGA-TFT module" !
Then, I connected it again and executed the hardship and hardship (?) of repeatedly turning the power on and off.
(No big deal ! Just remember, just press the power switch)

Because of that, the DOS screen suddenly appeared.
Run "ct65535c" or "ct65535v" without emptying. (Fig_5)
Then I started the drawing tool and tried "3 color band display". (Fig_6 [click])

After that, I tried to run some "app software" in this "DOS-CF".
Both can be executed without problems.
From this, I think that the immobilization of "PC110" is just stopped by the check routine in the initial BIOS.
(When I break through the barrier by the "tunnel effect" in quantum mechanics, the plain will spread beyond that.)
I think that the failure of No.7 : "Take/Bamboo” this time was also a “good failure/useful failure”, if it seems to support this idea.

... However, over time, it seems that the deterioration is progressing (or the barrier is getting higher ?) and the reproducibility is gradually decreasing.
(The matter will come later)
[2020/09/03]

PC110 No.7:"Take/Bamboo" immobilization, BIOS chip replacement

The main cause of the deterioration of many "PC110"s are that the initial hardware check is strict in the BIOS contents, I was wondering if the program would stop.
So, I was interested in what would happen if I replaced the BIOS chips with different defects.

So, from the surface of "Abandoned board (junk board)" that I had been investigating for a long time, I removed the "BIOS chip (28F002BX-T)" (while protecting the surrounding area with a polyimide film) and ported it to No.8:"Ume/Plum".
Furthermore, the BIOS chip removed there was ported to No.7:"Take/Bamboo".

As for the result, in No.8:"Ume/Plum", the screen (backlight) only flashes repeatedly, and it is still the same, so it seems that chip replacement has no effect. It is.

No.7:"Take/Bamboo" is still immobile (stable !?) so that DOS operation etc. can no longer be expected, ... But sometimes it makes strange movements !
I'll continue to investigate a little more.

−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−─

+++ No.8:"Ume/Plum" Replacement of the BIOS chip +++

After removing the "BIOS chip" from the "waste board", it was not difficult to remove the chip to No.8:"Ume/Plum".
The question is whether you can put "another BIOS chip" on top of it.

The first one is a failure !

When I try to put the "board surface" and the "chip legs/pins" without removing the solder, the middle legs/pins will start to shift sideways, and I'll try to fix it.
There were many accidents where the legs/pins were bent.
I gave up on the way and removed the chip.

The second time, using the "soldering wire", the board surface and legs/pins were sucked off excess solder, and then mounting was resumed.
The important point is how accurately the entire chip is placed on the "board pattern" when fixing the four legs/pins at the ends.
If I keep that in mind, it seems to have worked. (Fig_9)
(Actually, I'm not sure.) The behavior after turning on the power was the same as before, so I just think that "connection" might have been done well.
The behavior is to flash the screen/backlight periodically, and the image is not displayed. (Fig_10 [click])
After all, even if I replaced the "BIOS chip", there was no change. In other words, it may be said that the contents of the BIOS chip were almost the same (?).

+++ No.7:"Take/Bamboo" Replacement of BIOS chip +++

The transfer to this was stopped only once, but I have little confidence.
There is no denying the possibility that the legs/pins are short-circuited. (Fig_12 [click])

But now there is an "interesting change" that has never existed before!
Sometimes, when the "LCD screen with only vertical stripes and horizontal stripes" appears, the various patterns on the keyboard react and the screen pattern changes randomly.
Besides, when I press a key, I sometimes get a beep, and at that time there is a one-to-one reaction with the key.
Actually, if "PC-DOS" is launched and "ct65535c" is not executed, the normal LCD screen will not be displayed, which is frustrating. There is no help for it.

In addition, on the LCD screen, I can't see anything meaningful, but only the light and shade move, but sometimes it beeps as if you were in "TEST mode" of "Easy Setup".
Certainly this seems to be "TEST mode"! However, it is not visible on the LCD screen.
I wanted to display it on the "external display", but I cannot switch it ! ...
Since DOS still doesn't run, the connection of the BIOS chip may be poor.
I'll try the second reloading later, but this time it's here. (tired...!)

[2020/09/07]

PC110 No.7:"Take/Bamboo" operating status, displaying

When I change the display from "VGA23-TFT module" to "nFSTN-LCD", it is almost operating normally. I got it !
However, since it often becomes "screen with horizontal stripes" on the way, it cannot be said to be completely normal.
But, if I press the F1 key, I can enter it in "Easy Setup", and insert "Win95-CF", I can see that "Win95" can be started (with good reproducibility). (Fig_13, Fig_14 [click])
(Connecting/soldering the BIOS chip seems to be done well, so I probably don't need to reload the chip a second time)

Considering the changes in the situation so far, by replacing the "BIOS chip" from the original "No.7 chip" to "No.8 chip", , No.7:"Take/bamboo" body was "revitalized", I think.

Isn't part of the BIOS contents rewritten in the first accident ? There is no answer to that question.
Also, is it possible to "reactivate" the main unit just by transferring the "BIOS chip" of another device ? There is no logical answer to the question.

Maybe in the first accident, it just caused the cause of "not sync / horizontal stripe screen", make a simple jig (simple relay board) and see the clock, HS (horizontal sync.), VS (vertical sync.), etc..
However, there was no "disorder" in them.
Apparently there is a serious problem inside the video chip.
This No.7:"Take/bamboo" seems to have become difficult not only as a test bench but also as a "dynamic preservation".

−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−─

+++ not sync / Out of sync +++

This No.7:"Take/bamboo" + "nFSTN-LCD" turns on the power, and for a while, horizontal stripes / not sync The display status continues. (Fig_15)
Now, , DISK1 has "Pasonaware", so if you don't put anything in DISK2, it will start up and display color = "#a00080">horizontal stripe stops. (Fig_16 [click])
(However, horizontal stripes sometimes run when the machine is in a bad mood)

I think this horizontal stripe is "not sync / Out of sync", but the cause is not clear.
If you put "PC-DOS-CF" in DISK2, this horizontal stripe does not stop after any time.
(In other words, it seems that the "DOS screen mode" cannot be displayed, but I'm not sure ?!)

When I put "Win95-CF" in DISK2, Horizontal stripes is displayed, but when it stops in the image display and "Win95" starts up properly, almost Horizontal stripes disappear.
(I haven't tried any application on Win95 yet)

+++ How are the (external) sync signals ? +++

Initially, I thought that the horizontal stripe screen (not sync / out of sync) might be a "HS, VS output voltage amplitude drop".
To observe them, I made an observation jig (small board for relay). (Fig_18 [click])

Examining each signal waveform with an oscilloscope, the output voltage amplitude was sufficient (+3.3V), and there was no disturbance even when the "horizontal stripe screen" occurred.
On the other hand, the "color signals" at that time was disturbed by disturbance and was triggered properly, and could not be observed.

From these things, we speculate that the "out of sync" may be happening inside the "Video chip 65535".
And, in a certain frequency range, the image is stable, but at other frequencies, it seems to be "not sync / out of sync (horizontal stripe screen)".
I'm not sure if this is a fix, but I'll do some more research. (with my slower pace)

+++ (Sad news) more nFSTN-LCD ? +++

By the way, Sad news, the remaining 2 units that did not check the display until setting the polarizer (film) and one added did not any display of image / not grown up to "nFSTN-LCD"s.
When the output of the "control circuit board" seems to be viewed on an oscilloscope, the necessary signals, including the amplitude, are visible/appearing to be supplied to the liquid crystal panel, but No text or image is displayed.
(Only the backlight shines, but I'm disappointed that I can't even see a line of the noise line !)
... This means that the processing of "nFSTN-LCD" was only a trial of luck. (I'm regaretable !)

[2020/09/30]

PC110 No.7:"Bamboo" Operating state recovery [to English Note ]

This No.7:"Bamboo" , which I found out later, seems to have worked normaly.
It seems that I inadvertently declared death because I didn't see the expected behavior due to a malfunction on the display device side, which was a mistake and still vigorously as a "test bench". It's working.

However, it seems that the external display signal does not come out properly.
I also suspected "Potori", but when using another machine, it seems that external output is output, so there may be (partial unknown) deterioration of this No.7:"Bamboo" .

I also made a wooden cover to make it easier to test the display devices. (Fig_19, Fig_20 [click])
This stand is good when the display device is stationary, but when it comes time to replace it, it takes a lot of time and effort.
But more better than nothing !
